"I think this may become a very useful addition to the repertoire of books on biomolecular NMR spectroscopy. This text is more complete than the well-known book by Cavanagh et al., in the derivation of theoretical results and at the same time it contains more practical information. It is more up to date compared with the 1996 edition of Cavanagh (for instance by including residual dipolar couplings) and the inclusion of exercises is also an attractive feature."

Professor Rule's research is directed at understanding inter-molecular interactions in biological systems. An understanding of these interactions is required if biological systems are to be comprehended at the molecular level. The combined tools of molecular biology, NMR spectroscopy and x-ray crystallography are used to provide important information to aid in our understanding of these interactions. Our research efforts have been directed at enzyme-substrate interactions, protein-lipid interactions, antibody-antigen interactions, and protein-nucleic acid interactions

Excellent primer for NMR

I'm a complete novice to NMR and this text provides a great introduction to the field with a focus on biological molecules. I've also read parts of Protein NMR Spectroscopy by John Cavanagh and I think Rule's book sets up the stage nicely for the reader to explore further by reading more detailed texts (Cavanagh) on particulars of the field. It's a relatively slim volume and not as intimidating in the mathematical modelling as some of the other books. If you need to understand an NMR phenomenon, read about it in this book first and it'll save you some time in developing an overall picture before looking at pages and pages of derivations in a dusty old book. I have Dr. Rule in part of my classes, I'm a first year grad student, and his amazing teaching ability in the classroom is reflected in the book. Highly recommended to those new to NMR along with Cavanagh's text. I wouldn't leave home without them.

Good for Beginners

Goes great with Cavannaugh or Teng -I would not use this book alone but everything in it was very helpful. Also, it is necessary to have more practical guides on hand.
